Forest species as the Livestock fodder producer from the three cold, warm and intermediary rangelands in kohkiloye and Boyerahmad province
Abstract
Nomadic method of using rangelands is the best and the most sustainable way in harvesting
natural resources. This method is based on moving from cold to warm regions through
intermediary rangelands and looking for water, grasses and better climate. Woodlands of the
watersheds in all the altitudinal belts have a great roll in the life of man. It is done by wind
control, oxygen emanation, dust suppressing, capturing carbon dioxide and other harmful gases,
quality enhancing in agricultural products and many others. One of the important usages of the
woody species is fodder production for husbandry. Fodder will be used to feed the animals
during difficult situations when rangelands are not enough to supply them. Thus woody species
are crucially effective in the life of nomadic tribes. In order to determine the important species in
feeding the livestock, the present questionnaire based research was developed in three vegetative
zones on kohkiloye and Boyerahmad province. The results show that most of these species
belong to cold region of the province. They include CrataegusponticaC. koch,
PopoluseuphraticaOliv., PyrusglobraBoiss., AmygdaluslycioidesSpach., QuercusbrantiiLindl.,
Acer monspessulanum L., LoniceranummulariifoliaBoiss.,
CerasusmahalebMill.andPistaciamuticaFisch. & C. A. Mey.. In warm zones of the province,
RhamnuscatharicaBoiss.,PictasiakhinjukStocks.andZiziphusspina-christiDesf.are widely
consume by the livestock according to the local shepherded and rangers point of view. While in
the intermediary rangelands Salix sp., PictasiakhinjukStocks.andPistaciamuticaFisch.& C. A.
Mey.have the most consumption.
